ANALYZING WORD STESS PRONUNCIATION OF TBI RAKHA STUDENT AT STAI RAKHA AMUNTAI

Abstract


The purpose of this diary is to analyze how well TBI STAI RAKHA AMUNTAI students grasp how to pronounce word stress in English. The participants of this study were 10 first and third semester final year students of English Department. The materials used for this study are 15 English words categorized into three types, namely easy, medium and difficult types. The results of the study show that most English students pronounce English syllables correctly, but in some words, especially those that have two equivalences and have stress on the first eqvalence, they are wrong in pronunciation. Some students are mistaken in the pronunciation of emphasis especially in the words "Record, Protest and Permit". The results show a range of pronunciation emphasis accuracy among the students, with room for improvement, especially in certain word stresses. This study underscores the importance of pronunciation stress in effective communication and education, particularly in the context of English. By understanding the specific pronunciation challenges that students face, educators can develop targeted teaching strategies to improve speech intelligibility, thereby enhancing the learning experience for students and improving educational outcomes.
